To the Master of Kazan Godmother Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Havana
HP Dmitry Orekhov
THANK YOU LETTER
I just wanted to take a moment to write and let you know that your master efforts are greatly appreciated by the Community ofKazan Godmother Church in Havana, Cuba.
We have a wonderful Russian Orthodox church here which is not only made up of people, but of great and eternal efforts of its Master and priest. You have chosen to show your love for God and His people by showing your love for the House of God.
I’m very thankful that you have taken time from the busyness of your own schedule to give a broad and detailed course of the Orthodox catechesis to me. Being a devoted Catholic since my childhood spent in the Catholic closed school, I had moments of “down time” not finding any aisle for praying in Havana, but when I turned to the masses you lead I have found that God is always there. You are always available, at just the right moment with needed answers to prayer.
The Orthodox church of Havana has greatly benefited from your service. At times it may seem that much of the work is «behind the scenes», and no one really cares. I must encourage you and say that the Church becomes visibly stronger as each Sunday I see more people getting involved, remain faithful, and you serve with the same kind of attitude the Lord had when He knelt to wash the feet of His Mother.
What an encouragement it is to have you stand and give praise to God for what He has done in your life. Only eternity will reveal the many lives that have been touched as a result of listening to a testimony such as the one you gave.
I know that it takes great dedication to gather and organize the Choir, and you are to be commended for the fine job you and the Choir have done in sharing the message of the Resurrection in song.
Some of the fondest memories people have are of the various Feast programs we have either participated in, or watched throughout the year. I’m sure that this year’s presentations will be one of those that will be a lasting memory in the days and months to follow. Thank you for introducing me into the Orthodox Feast calendar, this year’s Easter Holly Night was done beautifully.
I know that it takes great dedication to organize an event such as this, and you are to be commended for the fine job. It’s obviously amazing how many activities you and the church team have done in sharing the Christmas message in song and drama, Easter Holly Spirit and a small performance and etc. Great that you find an opportunity to involve the Community into learning of the Russian language and Orthodox Culture itself. Surely all these will help others find their way to Christ.
Sometimes, my heart is heavy when I see that some do not always fully appreciate the sacrifices you make. I do understand the time you sacrifice with your family, the vacations that have been cut short, the dinners interrupted and the late nights devoted to your Community members’ needs. I understand that the sacrifice is not just yours, but that your family makes sacrifices as well.
Again, thank you, and if there is anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
